01 Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Grains app ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Pradhumansinh Padhiyar, the individual operating Grains ("we", "us", or "our").

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. Your continued use of the App after any changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of those changes.

These Terms apply to all users of the App, including users of the free tier and Grains Pro subscribers.

02 The Grains app

Grains is a time-visualization iOS application. It allows you to create countdowns to personal events, build daily habits, and visualize the passage of time as a grid of grains — where each grain represents one unit of time.

The App is available on iOS 16 and above, distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store. We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any feature of the App at any time. We will communicate significant changes through the App itself or through the App Store update notes.

We aim to keep the App running reliably at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Scheduled maintenance, App Store updates, or unforeseen technical issues may cause temporary unavailability.

03 Accounts and sign in

Grains works without an account. All core features — creating countdowns, tracking habits, and customizing themes — are available locally on your device without signing in. Your data stays on your device and no account is required to use the App.

Sign in with Apple is optional and only required if you wish to enable cloud sync (a Grains Pro feature) or restore a Pro subscription on a new device. When you sign in, you agree to Apple's terms for Sign in with Apple, and you authorise us to store your app data securely in our cloud infrastructure.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Apple ID. We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from unauthorised access to your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact Apple support immediately.

04 Grains Pro — subscriptions and billing

Grains Pro is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features. Here is everything you need to know about how billing works:

Free trial. Grains Pro includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. You will not be charged during the trial period. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription automatically converts to a paid annual subscription at $19.99.

Billing. All billing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment information. Charges appear on your Apple ID account. Pricing may vary by region — Apple automatically converts to your local currency.

Auto-renewal. Grains Pro renews automatically each year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Grains.

Refunds. All refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We have no ability to issue refunds directly.

Price changes. We may change the price of Grains Pro in the future. If we do, we will notify you through the App in advance. Price changes take effect at the start of the next billing period after notice is given.

05 Free tier limitations

The free tier of Grains is genuinely free, forever. No credit card is required and no time limit applies. The free tier includes:

• Up to 3 countdown events
• 1 habit with streak tracking
• The Warm theme (circles, amber)
• A basic home screen widget

Free tier limits are enforced within the App. If you reach a limit — for example, attempting to create a fourth event — you will be shown an option to upgrade to Grains Pro. You are never charged without explicitly choosing to subscribe.

06 Your content

"Your content" refers to everything you create in Grains — event names, dates, habit names, notes, and any other information you enter into the App.

You own your content entirely. We make no claim of ownership over anything you create in Grains. Your content belongs to you.

When you enable cloud sync, you grant us a limited licence to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of delivering the sync service to you. We do not use your content for any other purpose — not for training, not for analytics, not for advertising.

You are responsible for ensuring that any content you enter into Grains does not violate any applicable law or infringe any third-party rights. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms, though in practice your content is private and only visible to you.

Data export and deletion. You can export all your data as a JSON file (Grains Pro) or delete all data permanently from Settings → Clear All Data. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

07 Acceptable use

Grains is a personal productivity app. You agree to use it only for lawful personal purposes. You must not:

• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
• Use the App in any way that could damage, overload, or impair our servers or infrastructure
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the App or its backend systems
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the App
• Circumvent or attempt to bypass any subscription restrictions or in-app purchase validation
• Distribute, sell, or sublicence access to the App or any of its features
• Use the App for any commercial purpose without our prior written consent
• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation in connection with your use of the App

Violation of these terms may result in immediate termination of your access to the App, including revocation of any active Pro subscription without refund.

08 Intellectual property

The Grains App, including its name, logo, visual design, grain grid concept, code, and all associated content, is owned by Pratik Prajapati and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on your personal Apple devices, subject to these Terms and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. This licence does not include the right to:

• Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the App
• Redistribute or publicly display any part of the App
• Use the Grains name, logo, or branding without our written permission

Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you share with us about improving Grains may be used by us without obligation, compensation, or attribution to you. We appreciate every piece of feedback and take it seriously.

09 Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The App is provided "as is". We work hard to make Grains reliable and accurate, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be error-free, uninterrupted, or perfectly accurate. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding fitness for any particular purpose.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.

Our total liability to you for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim — or $19.99 if you have not made any payments.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

10 Termination

You may stop using Grains at any time by deleting the App from your device. If you have an active Pro subscription, cancel it through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions before deleting the App to avoid being charged on the next renewal date.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to the App for any user who violates these Terms. In cases of serious violation — such as attempting to bypass purchase validation or exploit our infrastructure — termination may be immediate and without prior notice.

Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Data stored locally on your device remains on your device. Cloud data associated with your account will be deleted within 30 days of account deletion, unless required to be retained by law.

11 Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time as the App grows and evolves. When we make changes, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.

For significant changes — such as changes that affect your subscription rights, data handling, or acceptable use — we will notify you through a prominent in-app notice at least 14 days before the change takes effect. For minor clarifications or corrections, we may update these Terms without prior notice.

Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you should stop using the App and, if applicable, cancel your Pro subscription before the changes take effect.

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith communication between you and us.
